（1）当“only+状语”位于句首表示强调，如：Only when one falls ill does one know the value of health.(只有生病了才知道健康的可贵。)
（2）表否定意义的词或词组位于句首。这样的词和短语主要有：never(从不)，seldom（很少），rarely（很少），little（一点也不，几乎没有），hardly（几乎不），nowhere（没有地方），not until（知道……才），hardly when（一……就），no sooner than（一……就），in no way（决不），by no means（决不），at no time（从不），in/under no circumstances（决不）。如：On no account would I dare walk in that neighborhood at night.（夜晚我决不敢在那附近走。）
（3）为了生动描写动作，in, out, away, down, off等副词放在句首，句子完全倒装。如：Up went the rocket into the sky.(火箭嗖的一声飞上了天。) 注意，这一结构中如果主语是代词，则使用正常语序。如：Away they went.（他们走了。）
